Veteran Police Officer Promoted To Rank of Lieutenant

Woody Cantrell was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on Tuesday morning at the monthly meeting of the Public Safety Commission. Lt. Cantrell's promotion was confirmed by unanimous vote of the commission. The 19-year DPD veteran was presented for promotion by Chief Cliff Cason.

 

Lt. Cantrell joined the police department in July 2002, serving his entire career thus far in the patrol division. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2015 and since 2018 he has served as the supervisor of the agency’s special operations units including the Traffic Enforcement Unit. During his time supervising that unit, the TEU earned top honors in the Governor's Officer of Highway Traffic Safety Governor's Challenge for the first time.

 

Lt. Cantrell has earned ten awards for outstanding performance including four letters of commendation and has been honored as the department’s Officer of the Month on one occasion. He is a 1986 graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School and earned his associate's degree from Thomas University in 2012.
