Support Services Division

Shaun Scott

The Support Services Division is made up of several behind-the-scenes functions that are vital to our department's daily operations.  Those areas include Building Maintenance, Professional Standards, Property and Evidence, Records, Recruiting, and Training.  

Captain Shaun Scott is the Support Services Division Commander. He is a Whitfield County native and a graduate of Southeast Whitfield High School.  He joined the Dalton Police Department in 2000 as a patrol officer and served a number of years on the Traffic Enforcement Unit.  Captain Scott was promoted to captain in 2019 and has spent time managing the Criminal Investigations Division, the Administration Division, and the Patrol Division.  Captain Scott holds bachelor's degrees from Covenant College and Liberty University and a master's degree from Columbus State University.  Captain Scott has received specialized management training from FBI LEEDS (Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar) and from FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association). 

 

 

 


 
 

​The Training Section is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating the training for all members of the Dalton Police Department.  The DPD conducts its own in-service training, to include annual firearms certification, and hosts other advanced and specialized training courses that are open to other law enforcement agencies.  For questions regarding upcoming training classes, contact Sergeant Matias Castillo at mcastillo@daltonga.gov or 706-278-9085 ext. 352.

The Property and Evidence Section ensures the proper storage and maintenance of all items the Dalton Police Department collects as evidence of crimes and as found or recovered property.  This section is also responsible for issuing equipment and uniforms, fleet management, and GBI crime lab submissions.  The P&E Section processed 3,030 new items of evidence / property in 2022.

The Records Section of the Dalton Police Department is responsible for performing clerical tasks, computer data entry, processing reports and forms, disseminating information, processing citations, answering inquiries, file maintenance, and other related duties.  During 2022, the Records Section processed 7,578 incident and accident reports, 119 city warrants, and 4,253 criminal history requests.
