Tuesday, October 24th, 2023
The Dalton Police Department recognized two of its officers on Tuesday morning for outstanding performance of their duties. During the Public Safety Commission's monthly meeting, Detective Charles Williams was honored as the DPD Officer of the Month for September and Officer Nicholas Hill was recognized as the Traffic Officer of the Year for 2022.
Detective Williams' honor comes in recognition of his work to solve a series of vehicle break-ins and other thefts that were plaguing Dalton this summer. Assistant Chief Chris Crossen told the PSC's members that Williams was assigned the cases as the on-call detective and that he began to work tirelessly on the cases.

"He was able to develop some leads, hit some dead ends, continued to follow leads and hit some dead ends and eventually ended up landing upon the correct juvenile suspect," Crossen told the commission. "After that suspect was brought in, Detective Williams continued to pursue the case and did a series of excellent interviews and was able to recover property, develop more suspects, and that did eventually lead to the arrest of two adult suspects along with the juvenile that was arrested. These suspects did have some gang affiliation."
Ultimately, the three arrests led by Detective Williams cleared not just the vehicle break-ins and thefts but also a series of graffiti cases as well. For his efforts, Detective Williams was named as the Officer of the Month for September after being nominated for the honor by his supervisor.
Officer Nicholas Hill was recognized as the Traffic Officer of the Year for 2022. He was presented with the recognition by his supervisor Sergeant David Saylors who noted the award was being presented before the Public Safety Commission in October due to scheduling challenges.
