Citizens' Police Academy
The Dalton Police Department’s Citizens' Police Academy gives residents of Dalton and the surrounding region an up-close, behind the scenes, and even hands-on look at the way our agency works. It’s a 10-week course that meets at the Police Services Center for three hours on Thursday evenings, and it’s free of charge. If you are interested in going beyond what you see on TV and learning what real policing is like, this course was built for you.
Each of the ten sessions is led by subject matter experts among the officers and staff of the Dalton Police Department and covers every aspect of our operation. Everything from crime scene investigation, the drug and gang units, patrol operations, to the history of policing itself and the laws that govern how officers make their cases is covered in an engaging manner. In addition to time in the classroom, participants get a chance to go to the firearms range to test out each of the weapons issued to DPD officers and also to ride along with a Dalton officer during his or her shift.
