Police Department Job Duties
The duties of a Dalton Police Officer include:
- Patrolling assigned areas to detect and deter criminal activities and traffic violations
- Responding to calls for service, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic crashes, etc.
- Conducting preliminary investigations
- Apprehending, arresting, and processing offenders, including juveniles
- Providing assistance and backup support for other officers, as needed
- Providing first aid and / or CPR to victims
- Collecting, preserving, processing, and submitting property and evidence
- Providing traffic direction and escorts for events, such as parades, funerals, sporting events, and school activities
- Completing all required reports and forms, including incident and crash reports
- Conducting follow-up investigations
- Maintaining assigned vehicle and equipment in good condition
- Completing other related duties, as assigned
The duties of a Dalton Police Department Records Technician include:
- Reviewing and auditing reports, which includes determining classifications and making changes or corrections
- Processing requests for information either by phone, e-mail, or in person
- Entering data and extracting information from the records management system
- Accurately maintaining a variety of department files, purging files, and restricting arrest information
- Collecting fees, entering information into the accounting program, and submitting deposits
- Entering property and persons into NCIC/GCIC and maintaining a GCIC terminal operator certification
- Processing criminal history check for various applications, employment purposes, and individual requests
- Receiving, researching, entering, and maintaining files for active, dismissed, and cleared warrants
- Greeting visitors and providing assistance to the public and other department members
- Sorting, distributing, and receiving mail deliveries
- Training new employees on required tasks
- Completing other related duties, as assigned
Duties of a Dalton Police Department Property and Evidence Technician include:
- Taking custody of evidence / property submitted by officers
- Maintaining chain-of-custody of evidence
- Packaging evidence
- Maintaining evidence room integrity / security
- Preparing and sending evidence to in-house / outside crime laboratory
- Disposing of / supervising the disposal of evidence / property
- Facilitating maintenance / repairs of agency vehicles
- Testifying at trials, hearings, grand juries, and depositions
- Recording and issuing uniforms and equipment
- Maintaining specialized files, dockets, tabular summaries, and other forms of documentary information
- Completing other related duties, as assigned
