UPDATE (5/16/23) - The individual has been identified. Thank you to everyone who contacted the police department with information.
The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a woman who investigators say stole a wallet that was left behind in a shopping cart by a forgetful shopper. The suspect was recorded by store surveillance video.
The incident happened May 2nd at the Dollar General store at 511 N. Glenwood Avenue. Just before noon, a shopper left the store but forgot that she had left behind a black Guess brand wallet on the seat of her shopping cart. The wallet contained about $300 in cash as well as other items including credit cards and the victim's driver's license. The victim called the store on her way back to alert employees, but the wallet was already missing. When a Dalton PD officer responded and checked the surveillance video, a white female in a gray shirt could be seen leaning reaching into the cart where the wallet had been left behind. The woman was wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans and had her hair pulled back. Her picture is included below.
Anyone who recognizes this woman is asked to please contact Detective Ben Ridley at 706-278-9085, extension 9-122.
