Online Database Makes Navigating West Hill Cemetery Easier

Whether looking for the grave of an ancestor, a loved one, or simply trying to learn more about the history of our city and our community, many people visit Dalton's West Hill Cemetery each year. But they might not know about a handy online tool that makes finding grave sites as easy as a few keystrokes and mouse clicks.

The City of Dalton has a searchable database of all of the known grave sites in the West Hill Cemetery available online. The site is powered by a service called "Cemsites." Searchable by first name, last name, date of birth or death, or even simply by veteran status, the database can help guide visitors to a particular grave site in the scenic cemetery. After entering a search query into the database, visitors can search through the various names returned by the database and click "search" when they find their search subject. Each gravesite has its own page and the satellite map will show the location of the grave.

The site also has a feature that allows visitors to request to post an obituary for the deceased, as well as the option to post pictures of the grave or of the deceased (the pictures must be approved by the cemetery sexton). Messages of condolences can also be left on the site.

To visit the database, click here. You can also access it by visiting the daltonga.gov and clicking the "City Clerk" page under the "Departments" menu. From there, click "West Chapel & Cemetery Forms" in the left hand menu and then click "Find A Grave - Cemetery Lot Search."

This resource will hopefully help everyone from families looking to connect to a piece of their family history to genealogical researchers looking for gravesites to history buffs searching for the graves of notable Daltonians. The West Hill Cemetery is one of Dalton's most beautiful and peaceful places, and now exploring it is even easier.
