Podcast Episode Focuses On Development
Wednesday, January 24th, 2024
When you drive around Dalton these days, you probably pass a lot of active construction sites. New apartment buildings, new houses, and even new businesses are popping up all over town. That sort of development doesn't just happen, though. A lot has to happen behind the scenes to bring new businesses and new developers to the community. The next episode of the City of Dalton's "Live, Work, Play" podcast is available now, and guest Carl Campbell of the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority (JDA) talks about how local leaders work together to make those developments happen.
The JDA works with the governments of the City of Dalton and Whitfield County as well as the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce and local business leaders to spur growth in the community. In his role as executive director, Campbell works to create economic opportunities through retail, commercial, industrial, and housing growth, reducing the tax burden for Whitfield County citizens. In his interview on the "Live, Work, Play" podcast, Campbell talks about some of the projects that he's excited about moving forward in 2024 including a public-private partnership to create new owner-occupied housing near downtown Dalton. Campbell also takes listeners behind the scenes to learn how the JDA works to attract businesses to invest in Dalton.

The "Live, Work, Play" podcast launched in the fall of 2023 and is intended to shine a light on all of the things that the City's government is doing to make the community Georgia's best community for people to live, work, and play. That will include interviews with City leaders both elected, appointed, and also those simply leading at a grass roots level. It will include profiling City employees, projects, and initiatives. And it will also involve talking about all of the wonderful things that make Dalton a special place.
The podcast is available on Spotify, Amazon, iHeartRadio, and Apple Podcasts. A video version of the podcast can also be viewed on the City of Dalton's YouTube channel at YouTube.com/CityofDaltonGeorgia and also in the window below.
A podcast is an audio program similar to a radio broadcast that's available online for download to a computer or a mobile device. The "Live, Work, Play" podcast does not currently have a schedule for future episodes, but the City plans to produce new episodes featuring City staff, events, and projects on a regular basis.
The "Live, Work, Play" podcast is produced and recorded in the new Podcast Lab at the Mack Gaston Community Center. The lab is available for use by the public free of charge. Use of the lab can be reserved by contacting the Mack Gaston Community Center during business hours at 706-278-8205.
