Interesection Of Waugh And N. Boundary Back Open After Storm Damage

Wednesday, February 28th, 2024

UPDATE - 2/28/2024 - 2:15 PM - The Dalton Public Works Department has re-opened the roadway after patching the damaged section and all lanes of Waugh Street are back in operation. Despite speculation that the damage could have been caused by lightning, it's possible that the damage was instead caused by leaking water during the storm. In any event, the road is fixed.

ORIGINAL STORY - The intersection of Waugh Street and N. Boundary Street is temporarily closed due to damaged pavement that might have been caused by a lightning strike. One eastbound lane of Waugh Street is closed immediately adjacent to the intersection.

The damage to the intersection was reported a short while ago after a strong thunderstorm moved through the Dalton area. During the storm, at least one loud clap of thunder was heard near downtown Dalton. A Public Works crew examining the damage to the roadway, which consists of two chunks of asphalt being gouged from the roadway, could have been caused by a lightning strike. There weren’t any witnesses at the scene of the damage.
