Too Big For One Park - Dalton's 4th of July Celebration Plans Are Set
June 29th, 2023
The Parks and Recreation Department's annual 4th of July celebration will be even bigger this year with events at both Heritage Point Park and also Burr Park downtown. The traditional fireworks show and the softball tournament will be at Heritage Point while new events like a cornole tournament, musical performances, and "kid zone" will be based at Burr Park.
The celebration will get underway at 10:00 am at Heritage Point with an "old timers" softball game followed by the kickoff of the Firecracker Softball Tournament. Teams must register for the tournament in advance at mydprd.com. The fun at Burr Park will get cranked up later in the day, with registration for both the Little Miss Dalton pageant and the cornhole tournament starting at 4:00 pm. Those events will start at 5:00 pm.
"We’re going to have a 'kid zone' at Burr Park as well," said Brandon Sane, a program coordinator for the Parks and Rec Department. "We’re going to have inflatables, some sand art, some chalk art, some other crafts activities and kids will also a chance to tie-dye some limited edition DPRD 4th of July shirts."
At 6:30, the music will get cranked up on the Burr Park stage. Wes Harness will open the show followed by the band Papa Soul at 8:00 pm. Meanwhile, the fireworks are set to start at Heritage Point at dark. Sunset is expected just before 9:00 pm.
The Heritage Point fireworks won't be visible from Burr Park.
Vendors will be located at both parks throughout the day.
