Independence Day Celebration Events

The City of Dalton will be celebrating our nation's independence all weekend long. The schedule of events for the Independence Day holiday starts with a concert in Burr Park Friday night and culminates with a full day of activities on July 4th.

The celebration begins Friday, July 2nd with Pops in Burr Park at Burr Park downtown, sponsored by the Creative Arts Guild at 7:30 pm. The concert will feature the Creative Arts Guild Chamber Orchestra performing familiar and patriotic favorites and there will be crafts and activities for kids. 

On Sunday, July 4th, the celebrations continue with pools and splash pads open at the John Davis Rec and Mack Gaston Community Center along with a full slate of  activities at Heritage Point Park. The pools and splash pads will be open from noon until 5:00 pm. Softball games will be held at 10;00 am, and there will be pageants and eating contests in the afternoon. The event culminates with the annual fireworks display at Heritage Point Park at 9:45 pm which is expected to last approximately 20 minutes. 

Visitors for the fireworks display at Heritage Point Park are encouraged to set up in the outfields of the ball parks in the top pod due to construction taking place at the Dalton Middle School campus.

  • 10:00am    Firecracker Adult Softball Tournament HP East Fields 1, 2, 4, 5- Pre-reg. only
  • 3:00 pm    Corn Hole Competition-Rotary Pavilion – Registration 2:45 on site, first 32 teams
  • 3:00   Registration Open: Rotary Pavilion Stage
    • Little Miss Rec.- ages 2-5, 25 contestants
    • Junior Miss Rec.- ages 6-12, 25 contestants
    • Eating Contests— 
      • Krystals- ages 16 and up, first 10 contestants
      • Doughnut holes- ages 12 and under, first 10 contestants
      • Doughnuts – ages 13 and up, first 10 contestants
  • 4:00   Disc Golf Tournament- Disc Golf Course- Registration on site 3:45
  • 4:00    Little Miss Rec. and Junior Miss Rec. - Rotary Pavilion Stage
  • 5:00    Eating Contests- Krystals, Doughnut Holes, Doughnuts- Rotary Pavilion Stage     
  • 6:30-9:15   Wrestling Matches- Stage at HP East
