Dalton Intersection To Become Four-Way Stop

Wednesday, October 9th, 2024

A dangerous intersection in a residential neighborhood is getting a makeover to make it safer. The intersection of James Street and Burchfield Avenue in Dalton will become a four-way stop on Friday morning.

The traffic control change was approved by the Dalton Mayor and Council at its meeting on Monday night. The Dalton Police Department has reported seven crashes at the intersection in the past four years, including three crashes there earlier this year. At least two of the crashes involved pedestrians. Before that period, there were approximately two crashes there per year dating back to 2013. There were already stop signs on James Street at the intersection, but traffic traveling on Burchfield Avenue currently does not stop. The change was requested by the Dalton Public Works Department after a study of the intersection in hopes of reducing the number of incidents there.

The Dalton Public Works Department will install signage and road paint to make the intersection a four-way stop on Friday morning.
