Turf Projects Completed At Lakeshore, Ron Nix Soccer Fields
Thursday, April 13th, 2023
The projects to replace the turf soccer fields at Lakeshore Park and the Ron Nix Soccer Complex at James Brown Park has been completed. The popular soccer facilities are once again ready for use with brand new field turf that will keep Soccertown USA's players in competition for years to come.
"Lakeshore is done," said Will Chappell, recreation superintendent with the Parks and Rec Department. "(Both fields at the Ron Nix Complex) are completed as of Tuesday. There is just some little turf work around the fields still to be done where they had to dig up the grass that’s around the field, but as far as being able to play they’re back operational."

Work to replace the worn turf fields at both facilities was approved by the Mayor and Council in December when they approved a bid from Shaw Integrated and Turf Solutions to complete the projects. The work at both facilities took several weeks to complete and was hampered by inclement weather.
"We’re moving everything that we can back to those fields (at Lakeshore and Ron Nix) so that the kids can play on the nicer fields. The Broaddus-Durkin soccer complex is the next on the list to try to get the turf fields there replaced," Chappell said.
Up next for the Lakeshore complex is resurfacing work to repair the track around the soccer field.
"There are dips and cracks all in the track," Chappell said. "Dalton Academy has requested to use the track for practices so they can start a track team so we're trying to make it a little nicer for them and for the rest of the community to use. Bids are due next Friday the 21st for the track project."
