Public Works Gives Facelift To Parking Facilities At City Parks
Monday, July 25th, 2022
The old saying goes that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Dalton has beautiful parks and first class recreation facilities, but for visitors to those parks, the first impression is often made as they arrive in the parking lot. Thanks to some great work by Dalton's Public Works Department, that first impression is now a lot better.

City departments recently went through a capital purchase review process and during that assessment, it was determined that the parking areas at several of Dalton's most-used parks were in need of re-striping. The Public Works Department, meanwhile, no longer had equipment to help as the striping equipment at the department was at the end of its useful life. Instead of having the Parks and Recreation Department contract a private company to repaint the parking areas, the Public Works Department instead was able to acquire new equipment through the capital purchasing process and get the job done for a lot less money.
"The capital purchase process that has been implemented by (city administrator) Andrew Parker allowed us to see the need from a more broad perspective than just Public Works," said Chad Townsend, Dalton's Public Works Director. "The decision from a purchasing stand point to acquire new striping equipment was an easy one. In doing so, it essentially enabled us to acquire new equipment and complete the work at all parks facilities at the same cost as contracting out just one of the major parking lots. We were able to perform the scope of work over roughly a one week time frame."
The results speak for themselves. By working together, city departments are saving taxpayer money and making Dalton's best assets even better for our residents and visitors.
