Fun And Fireworks Set For 4th Of July At Heritage Point

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022

The Dalton Parks and Recreation Department has planned a day of fun, games, and fireworks at Heritage Point Park to celebrate Independence Day. The department's annual 4th of July celebration will feature softball games, eating contests, cornhole competitions, and much more before the sun goes down and the fireworks begin.

The schedule begins with an old timers' softball game at 10:00 am at Heritage Point Park. The game is open to anyone 40 years of age or older, and is free. To register for the game, participants are asked to contact Brandon Sane at 706-847-0943 to let organizers know how many people will participate. The two oldest players will serve as the captains of the two squads and will pick the teams on the day of the game. Once teams are selected, jerseys/t-shirts will be handed out for the two teams.

"There is always a surprise with someone coming that no one has seen in years," said Sane who is organizing the event. "We also have some that will come to watch or 'coach' who are unable to physically play anymore."

There is also an adult softball tournament scheduled that will start at 11:00 am. The Firecracker 1 softball tournament will be a double-elimination single day tournament for teams. Registration is $150 per team. Participants can register their teams at mydprd.com or by calling 706-847-0943.

If cornhole is more your speed, there will be a tournament that begins at the Rotary Pavilion in Heritage Point Park starting at 2:00 pm with sign-ups at 1:45 pm. Sign-ups for the various eating competitions and the Little Miss Rec (ages 2-5) and Junior Miss Rec (ages 6-12) pageants will also be held at the Rotary Pavilion starting at 1:45 pm. The pageants will be held at 3:45 pm (Little MIss Rec) and 4:20 pm (Junior Miss Rec). Eating competitions will start at 5:00 pm. After that, wrestling matches will be held at 6:30 pm.

There's also a frog race, for which participants must bring their own frog to participate. That's open to all ages (both the frogs and the humans entering them to race). Registration for the frog race is also at 1:45 pm.

The main event, the fireworks display, will be held after dark and will last approximately 20 minutes. The fireworks will be held at Heritage Point Park as will all of the day's other events.
