City Council Honors Local Meteorologist

The City of Dalton's Mayor and Council honored one of the city's latest success stories at their meeting Monday night. Mayor David Pennington presented a proclamation declaring November 1st to be Cedric Haynes Day in the City. Haynes, a Dalton native, recently returned to the region to work as a broadcast meteorologist at Chattanooga's NBC affiliate WRCB-TV 3.

The proclamation was presented as a surprise to Haynes, who still has a lot of friends, family, and fans in the Dalton area. Haynes, a 2004 graduate of Dalton High School, left the area to pursue his dream of becoming a broadcast meteorologist, starting at the local station WDNN-TV before rising through the ranks of the profession at television stations in Louisiana, Texas, Iowa, and South Carolina before finally coming home to Channel 3. The position in Chattanooga has long been a dream and a goal for Haynes, and the Mayor and Council are proud of his determination and professionalism.

The proclamation reads: 

WHEREAS, Cedric Haynes was born and raised in Dalton and is a proud graduate of the Dalton High Class of 2004; and

WHEREAS, Cedric earned a band scholarship to the University of Cincinnati, earning a degree in electronic media and later earning a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, Cedric's career path has taken him to TV stations in Louisiana, Texas, Iowa, South Carolina, and now he has returned home to his dream station, WRCB in Chattanooga, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, he is excited to be able to join the station and staff who invested so much into him as a young, curious, high school student, who wanted to experience everything involving television; and 

WHEREAS, it has always been Cedric's dream to officially share his passion for the weather, and provide forecasts for the people who have supported his dream and career since the beginning.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Mayor and Council of the City of Dalton, Georgia hereby proclaim November 1, 2021 as "Cedric Haynes Day" in the City of Dalton as he has not come full circle to his dream job and station. Welcome home, Cedric!
