Project Engineer (Administration Division) - Public Works

The City of Dalton is currently accepting applications for the position of: Project Engineer.  This is a full-time, salaried position in the Public Works Department Administration Division with a starting rate of $25.54 to $32.75 per hour (depending on qualifications and prior experience of the applicant).

The essential duties of this position include:

Project management/coordination for civil construction/site development projects
Design and draft plans for transportation/stormwater projects
Preparing grant submittals/applications
Performing inspection oversight for large projects & subdivision/street construction
Assist with Traffic Engineering studies, signal timing, and intersection control warrant analysis
Compile and maintain project records; obtain project permits
Preparation of cost estimates and quantity takeoffs for projects 
Assist with development of the City’s resurfacing and bridge maintenance program
Assist with development/maintenance of the Departments infrastructure asset management program
From time to time, make presentations to the Elected Officials and citizens
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements for Position:

Four year undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or related field; previous engineering experience and an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation is desirable.

Working knowledge of the methods, materials, operations and procedures involved with all the Department’s operations; skills in CAD drafting; knowledge of roadway and bridge construction and repair procedures; able to read and interpret roadway and bridge plans and specifications; fluent in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PDF, and other standard computing software.

Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
