Landscape Technician / Assistant Cemetery Sexton
The City of Dalton is currently accepting applications for a Landscape Technician -Assistant Cemetery Sexton. This is a full-time dual role position in the Public Works Department Landscaping Division, with a starting pay rate to be determined based on experience. This position involves working under the supervision of the Landscaping Foreman as-well-as the Cemetery Sexton when needed; the following outlines a brief description of the duties involved.
Landscape Technician: Performs tasks associated with the landscape maintenance activities of the City’s green spaces, street right-of-way’s, parks, and other publicly owned properties; operates riding and push lawnmowers, weed eaters, and other landscaping tools; assists with planting and maintenance of shrubs and trees; may be used as a flagger for traffic control; on call after-hours to respond to emergency situations; and other duties as assigned.
Assistant Cemetery Sexton: Responsible for assisting the Cemetery Sexton with burials and contract work in the City’s West Hill Cemetery, including lot location, working with funeral home directors and employees, gravediggers, monument companies, and landscape contractors. In the absence of the Cemetery Sexton will work with the City Clerk and family members to ensure proper ownership of a grave lot prior to interment, assists the City Clerk with the sale of grave lots and transfer of ownership; helps with documentation of various records, and helps maintain maps and survey plats; addresses citizen inquiries and complaints in Sextons absence; other duties as assigned.
Applicants must have a valid Driver’s License. A Commercial Class B Driver’s license is preferred and must be obtained within six months of employment; the City will provide the necessary training to obtain Class B CDLs if the chosen applicant does not have one.
