Fire Chief Matt Daniel presented Young to the commission Tuesday morning, noting that he was the only firefighter candidate to make it through the grueling 15-week recruit school. The program is designed not just to train firefighters but also to ensure that only the best join the agency. Chief Daniel also noted that Young is a member of a firefighting family, as his father M.C. Young is a retired training chief for the Murray County Fire Departmnet.
Firefighter Young has completed all of the mandatory examinations and earned his certification as a firefighter from the state of Georgia and is being assigned to the DFD's suppression division. However, his training is just beginning, as he must complete more training during his term as a probationary firefighter before being promoted to the rank of Firefighter I.
