Qualifying For City Elections Begins Aug. 21st

Qualifying for municipal elections in the City of Dalton will be held next week. The City of Dalton will have four offices on the ballot including the mayor's office and three seats on the City Council (two new terms and one completion of an unexpired term). The Dalton Public Schools Board of Education will also have three offices on the ballot this November.
The offices on the November ballot are:
City of Dalton Mayor and Council:
- Mayor - (Mayor David Pennington is not standing for re-election)
- Councilmember Ward 1 (Incumbent Dennis Mock)
- Councilmember Ward 2 (to fulfill unexpired term of Councilmember Annalee Sams who resigned in compliance with state law to qualify for mayoral election)
- Councilmember Ward 3 (Incumbent Tyree Goodlett)
Dalton Public Schools Board of Education
- Board member (incumbent Joanne Jody McClurg)
- Board member (incumbent Samuel L. Sanders)
- Board member (incumbent John T. Johnson)
Qualifying will begin on Monday, August 21st and end on Friday, August 25th between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm each day at City Hall which is located at 300 W. Waugh Street. The qualifying fee for the Mayor of Dalton will be $576. The qualifying fee for the City Council seats is $360. The qualifying fee for the Board of Education seats is $35.
Municipal election day is Tuesday, November 7th, 2023. Early voting for the election will begin October 16th and run Monday through Friday until November 3rd. Saturday voting will be available from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on October 21st and October 28th. There will also be extended voting hours from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 2nd.
