- Approve the final change order for the Dalton Municipal Airport's ramp rehab project (phase 2). The project required additional funding due to soil problems underneath the ramp, and the airport previously secured grant funding to cover the majority of the cost overrun. The council voted 2-0 to approve the final closeout of the remaining $119,711, 90 percent of which will be eligible for reimbursement at a later date according to Airport Manager Andrew Wiersma. That would leave the local funding needed at approximately $11,000. The vote was 2-0. You can watch this portion of the meeting by clicking here.
- Approve a change order for the access control and security cameras project for City Hall and the Dalton Police Department. The project is improving security in those two facilities and the change requires additional hardware outside of the original scope of the project. The change order is for an additional $12,600 in funding which is coming from the City's Capital Improvements budget, however the amount is within the project's original budget. The initial plans for the project approved in December were under budget. The vote was 2-0. You can watch this portion of the meeting by clicking here.
- Approve a change order to the Ridge Street Stormwater Bypass project for rock removal. The contractor on the project has encountered unforeseen trench rock in the area being excavated for the project which must be removed using special equipment before the project can proceed. The contractor has provided an hourly rate of $475/hour for the rock removal. The council voted 2-0 to approve the change. You can watch this portion of the meeting by clicking here.
- Approve a right of way encroachment at 505 N. Glenwood Avenue. The business at that location, AutoZone, has proposed to demolish an existing retaining wall and install a storm drain and replace multiple driveway aprons on the site and the Public Works Committee recommended to allow them to proceed. The council voted 2-0 to approve the encroachment. You can watch this portion of the meeting by clicking here.
The Mayor and Council opened the meeting with a public comment session. Two people offered comments to the council. Mary Reynoso spoke to the council to ask about the possibility of improving parking conditions on her street because her driveway is frequently blocked by vehicles parked on the roadway. Patty Durand from Conyers, Georgia spoke to the council about her concerns regarding Dalton Utilities' involvement in the Plant Vogtle nuclear power plant. The public comment portion of the meeting can be viewed by clicking here.
The original meeting agenda called for a presentation from Dalton State College President John Fuchko, but that session was placed on the agenda in error due to a scheduling mistake. The presentation will be rescheduled for a future Mayor and Council meeting. The original agenda also called for an item regarding a corrective action plan for stormwater issues at 2251 Rocky Face Circle, but that agenda item was postponed.
