DDDA Gives Back To Soccertown USA
Tuesday, May 17th, 2022
Soccer has given a lot to Dalton - national exposure, community pride, and a renewed sense of unity to name just a few things. Monday night, Dalton was able to give back a little to some of the programs and players who have made our community into Soccertown, USA. Proceeds from the recent state championship game watch parties at Burr Park were distributed to the participating soccer teams at Monday night's meeting of the Dalton Mayor and Council.

Dalton Academy won a state championship in its first year of existence, taking home the single-A crown. Dalton High School, meanwhile, came up just short in a bid for its third straight state title, losing in the state championship game. Southeast Whitfield and Northwest Whitfield faced off in a cross-county state championship matchup, with Southeast bringing home a second straight crown. All three games were in Macon, and local fans unable to make the trip were able to watch the Dalton High and Southeast-Northwest games on the big screen at Burr Park. The park was unavailable for the Dalton Academy game due to a previously scheduled event. The Downtown Dalton Development Authority hosted the event in cooperation with the city's Parks and Recreation Department and Believe Greater Dalton.
Event organizers planned to divide the proceeds from the sale of concessions to the participating programs and on Monday night the DDDA handed off checks to the principals, athletic directors, and coaches of the participating schools. In all, concession sales netted $1,400 in profit that was divided between Dalton Academy, Dalton High School, Southeast Whitfield, and Northwest Whitfield.
