Cheerleaders Add Spirit To City Council Meeting

Monday night's meeting of Dalton's Mayor and Council was a much more spirited event than usual thanks to the national champion cheerleading squads from Christian Heritage School. The cheerleaders won top honors at the 2022 National Christian Cheerleading Championship in Orlando on New Year's Day. Mayor David Pennington honored their achievements with a proclamation declaring May 2nd, 2022 to be "Christian Heritage Lions Cheerleaders Day" in the City of Dalton.
The Mayor's proclamation read:
WHEREAS, the Christian Heritage cheerleaders wholeheartedly cheered their way to win the 2022 National Christian Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida on January 1, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the Cubs team of Barrett Ward, Charlotte Collier, Elle Brumlow, Emma Kernea, Georgia Pennington, Harper McEntire, Kambree Fox, Keeli Harrison, Olivia Fossett, Rowan Watkins, Sofia Jack Garofalo, and Tessa Paris won 1st place in the Sapphire Pee Wee Division; and
WHEREAS, the Gold team of Adalee Corn, Airess Williams, Callie Ward, Caty Beth Bates, Clark Collins Bennett, Ella Gray Pennington, Emery Hooker, Emma Walraven, Harper Davidson, Josie Perez, Kate Tankersley, Lola Mashburn, Madison Reyes, McKayla Fields, Mia Keefe, Ocie Pope Carpenter, Ren Goss, Rylee Paris, Sadie Newton, Wilson Noel Baliles, and Hadleigh Thompson won 1st place in the large Youth Sapphire Division; and
WHEREAS, the Crimson team of Belle Brindle, Bentleigh Brock, Blair Brindle, Carolina Mitchell, Cate Norwood, Curry Pierce, Ella Nuckolls, Ellis Carpenter, Eva Smith, Kami Harrison, Kate Jones, Kate Middleton, Kennedy Land, Kinsley Burdashaw, Mary Lee King, Molly Jones, Molly Walraven, Paige Minor, and Taylor Sain were the Ruby Grand Champions winning both Junior and Senior large Ruby Divisions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dalton recognizes the effort, dedication, hard work and perseverance of the three teams and their Coaches: Head Coach Rachel Harrison, Coaches Lindsey Goss, Emily Carpenter, Stephanie Fossett, Meagan Walraven, and Rebekah Garofalo.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, I, David Pennington, Mayor of the City of Dalton, Georgia hereby proclaim May 2, 2022 as “Christian Heritage Lions Cheerleaders Day” and congratulate them for winning the 2022 National Christian Cheerleading Championship and wish them well in their future competitions.
Also at Monday night's meeting, Mr. Pennington presented a mayoral proclamation to tourism director Margaret Thigpen declaring National Travel and Tourism Week in Dalton. Mayor Pennington noted that travel and tourism play an important part in the city's economy and work force.
The proclamation read:
WHEREAS, the future of Travel will be a consistent driver of the Dalton-Whitfield County economy and workforce; and
WHEREAS, a robust travel industry provides significant economic benefits for the nation, generating more than $2.6 trillion in economic output prior to the pandemic, with $1.2 trillion spent directly by travelers in the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, travel has been the foundation of a healthy workforce, serving as one of the largest private-sector employers in the U.S., supporting 17 million jobs in prior to the pandemic; and
WHEREAS, spending by travelers has aided state and local governments alike, generating $90 billion in state and local tax revenue prior to the pandemic to support essential services and programs; and
WHEREAS, the rebound of travel will drive the rebuilding of the U.S. economy and American workforce since, prior to the pandemic, 60% of leisure and hospitality employment was small business; and
WHEREAS, the future of Travel will foster a faster recovery, create a more sustainable, seamless and secure traveler experience and rebuild Dalton-Whitfield County workforce, driving us toward a more prosperous future.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, I, David Pennington, Mayor of the City of Dalton, Georgia hereby proclaim May 1-7, 2022 as “National Travel and Tourism Week” and urge our citizens to join me in recognizing the critical role this industry plays in Dalton-Whitfield County.
