Police Department Honors Officer of the Year, Month
The Dalton Police Department honored two of its officers at Tuesday's meeting of the Dalton Public Safety Commission. The agency presented its Officer of the Month for January as well as the 2021 Officer of the Year to the commission.
Officer Chase Jenkins was recognized as the Officer of the Month for January for his part in catching a suspect in an armed robbery. The incident happened on January 15th when Jenkins was conducting a traffic stop on Tibbs Road. While he was in the process of completing the stop, a call of an armed robbery in the area of Kroger on Walnue Avenue was dispatched. Officer Jenkins noted the details of the suspect vehicle in the radio report and was able to spot the vehicle a short time later and pulled the suspects over. The stop resulted in three arrests and multiple charges for the offenders.

Detective Jason Robinson was honored with the department's Officer of the Year award. Detective Robinson serves as the department's intelligence analyst in the Criminal Investigations Division. His nomination for the award came in response to several examples of his outstanding work, including his work to deploy officers in response to a wave of burglaries happening in neighboring jurisdictions and keeping those burglaries from happening in Dalton, his work to locate suspects in an online scam, and his work on a fraud case in which he developed several suspects and led to federal prosecution. In December, Detective Robinson was able to investigate an online threat against local schools that was made through a social media phone app and was able to track the threats back to the suspect responsible for making them and determine that the schools were safe. In recognition of all of his valuable work, Detective Robinson was recognized by his peers with the Officer of the Year honor.
