Dalton Sweeps "Battle of the Badges" Softball Games
Tuesday, September 12th, 2023
The Dalton Police Department and Dalton Fire Department are both on duty today serving the City's residents and keeping them safe. That might not sound like news, but after their dominant performances in a clean sweep of Whitfield County's public safety agencies on Saturday in the 2nd annual Battle of the Badges charity softball games, some of Dalton's officers and firefighters might have been considering going pro and trying out for the Atlanta Braves or Chattanooga Lookouts.
The Dalton PD beat the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office on Saturday and the Dalton FD beat the Whitfield County Fire Department. Then the most outstanding players from each side combined for a City vs. County All-Star Game which was also won by the City of Dalton.

The big winners, however, were the three charities selected by the participating agencies. Proceeds from the event raised more than $6,000 in support of the Grave & Joy House, Dalton-Whitfield Special Olympics, and the Shop With A Hero fund.
The pregame festivities kicked off with the performance of the National Anthem by Lizzy Stucky. The Southeast Whitfield High School Chorus then opened the City-County All-Star Game with a beautiful rendition of “God Bless America”. Ceremonial first pitches were thrown by Senator Chuck Payne and the family of the late Bobbie Dixon, who served as Whitfield County Coroner for 24 years. She passed away on August 31st.
The City of Dalton and Whitfield County public safety agencies may have a friendly rivalry that was on display Saturday, but the truth is they work side by side every day and serve our larger community with professionalism and courage. We're proud to be served by all four agencies and we're proud to see their love for the community evident in their efforts to give back.
We're also proud that the City's crew seems to be so much better at softball, but that's neither here nor there. Just an observation!
We thank everyone who attended this weekend's event. The participating agencies also extend a thank you to event sponsors who either donatedmonetarily or with event raffle prizes: Alan’s Automotive, Alliant Health Plans, AMC MovieTheater, The Butcher’s Market, Cheesecake Heaven, The Cohutta General Store, Cowboy CoffeeCantina, Cyra’s Restaurant, Discount Sporting Goods, Downtown Dalton DevelopmentAuthority, Dr. Chung’s Office, Engineered Floors, The Fraternal Order of Police, HB1 Solutions,Helton Tire & Off Road, Home Depot, Honey Baked Ham, Jack’s Pawn Shop, LATransmissions, Lowe’s, Nacho’s Carniceria, Red Wolfe Grill, Retro Bowl Shaw Industries,Silva’s Mechanical Bull, Stroll N’ Shine, Subway (Rocky Face), The Local Restaurant, TractorSupply, Walmart, Whitfield County, William’s Plastic Surgery, and Wolf Engineering.
